Revolution
Women in all areas of the country, North to South, experienced a dynamic revolution due to the Civil War. As husbands and fathers were taken away to war, women were asked to step up, and take a hand in supporting the country like never before.
Women took revolutionary roles when they got very involved in helping out with the war effort for the first time in American history
Why did these revolutionary women participate in the Civil War?
Civil War women serving as nurses, on the home front, as soldiers, or as spies all had motivations that fit into three main categories:
Independence-
-Women who fought in the Civil War earned double or triple the amount they could make as seamstresses or factory workers.
-Also earned a chance to experience a life unlike anything they would see if they had stayed at home
Patriotism-
-Women wanted to fight for the morals of the side they believed in.
-War was the best place to express those feelings
Family-
-Women who had husbands and fathers in the war couldn't bear to leave their family.
-So they helped out in whatever ways they could
